New York Mets fans have something to cheer about. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Pete Alonso has been asked to participate in this year’s Home Run Derby and the rookie first baseman will accept.
Alonso is second in the majors with 27 home runs, trailing only Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers. He has been one of the few bright spots for the Mets this season.
Prior to the season, there was some speculation that the Mets would hold Alonso down in Triple-A to manipulate his service time.
