When Pete Alonso was not added to the New York Mets Major League roster last September, he was greatly disappointed.
The 24-year-old prospect had an impressive season with the Mets’ AA Binghamton club before being promoted to AAA Las Vegas. There, he hit 21 home runs and drove in 67 runs in just 67 games.
A call up seemed inevitable. Instead, the Mets sent Alonso to the Arizona Fall League for more regular playing time.
When asked about the team’s decision Alonso replied:
I’m not going to lie, it’s really disheartening and disappointing because one of the things that people tell you is as long as you are successful, you’re going to be in the big leagues.
