To commemorate the first responders and victims of the 9/11 attacks, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso ordered custom cleats for the entire ballclub. The slugging rookie got everyone’s cleat size and thus went to work.
MLB could’ve fined the Mets for wearing the custom cleats without their permission. Luckily, they didn’t, which was most definitely the correct decision.
Now, Alonso is honoring the lives lost and the families of the tragic event even more. The first baseman has donated the custom cleats to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum located in Manhattan.
