Smokeless tobacco was officially banned at Citi Field and Yankee Stadium when New York Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the new ban into law on Wednesday.
The ban prohibits players and anyone else in the ballpark from using smokeless tobacco.
"We don't want our young people to think smokeless tobacco is a cool thing," de Blasio said.
Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco have also recently passed laws prohibiting the use of smokeless tobacco at city sporting venues.
"The bill sends a clear message," Councilman Corey Johnson said. "Tobacco has no place in New York City professional sports.
