CARLSBAD, Calif. — Brodie Van Wagenen avoids speaking in absolutes, so when Tim Tebow’s name was mentioned Tuesday, the new Mets general manager wasn’t going to place a ceiling on the former Heisman Trophy winner.
When asked on MLB Network where Tebow would begin the 2019 season, Van Wagenen indicated his likely starting point would be Triple-A Syracuse, but the GM wouldn’t rule out the major league roster.
Van Wagenen, until last week, was Tebow’s agent with CAA.
The 31-year-old Tebow ended last season with a broken hamate bone in his right hand that precluded him from playing the final month for Double-A Binghamton.
