New Mets GM adds analytics expert Adam Guttridge in first front-office hire

The Mets could be ready to enter the 21st century.

In an effort to bolster the team’s analytical approach to the game, new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has hired Adam Guttridge as the assistant GM for systematic development. Guttridge’s job will involve providing analytical models across various departments.

Guttridge co-founded Normalized Empirical Individual Forecasting Index, a firm that offers advanced talent assessments and projection systems to all levels of professional baseball.

An industry source indicated the Mets may add additional staff on the side of analytics. Last season, the Mets’ analytics staff was among the smallest in the major leagues, but Van Wagenen vowed to address the issue upon his hiring last month.
