Neil Walker’s clutch homer yanks Mets out of mini-tailspin

DETROIT — Neil Walker disappeared for June and much of July, but his reemergence has come at an important juncture for this decimated Mets lineup.

The veteran second baseman came to the rescue Sunday with a blast that helped the Mets avoid a three-game Motown sweep. Walker’s two-run homer in the ninth against Francisco Rodriguez scored the decisive runs in the Mets’ 3-1 victory over the Tigers at Comerica Park.

It was the second straight Sunday in which Walker’s thunder carried the Mets. The previous Sunday at Citi Field he hit a three-run homer against the Rockies in a 6-4 victory.
