Sean Gilmartin didn't make it out of the first inning but the Mets nearly completed a historic comeback before ultimately falling short in a 10-8 loss to the Phillies on Saturday night at Citi Field.
In case you missed it…
- Filling in for a sick Noah Syndergaard, Gilmartin (0-1) surrendered a three-run homer to Maikel Franco and after walking the eight-place hitter intentionally, a two-run single to the opposing pitcher. He was charged with five runs on four hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.
- Despite striking out seven in 3 1/3 innings, Rafael Montero allowed five runs in relief of Gilmartin to put the Mets in a 10-0 hole.
