Murphy day to day with mild left quad strain

One of the Mets' most consistent offensive threats this season, Murphy is batting .282 with 10 home runs in 107 games. He has been starting at first base with Lucas Duda on the disabled list, but he figures to shift back to second once Duda returns.

Worth noting:

• The Mets announced that left-handed reliever Dario Alvarez will join the team in time for Friday's game in Miami. Alvarez, 26, had a 2.45 ERA at Triple-A Las Vegas, and, considering Eric O'Flaherty's struggles, is a legitimate candidate to make the playoff roster as a lefty specialist.
