Morning Briefing: Oh, what a night!

NEW YORK -- What possibly can the New York Mets do for an encore?

Twice trailing by two runs and two outs away from defeat, the Mets instead posted a potentially season-altering 9-8 win against the Philadelphia Phillies in Thursday’s series opener at Citi Field. Jose Reyes produced a game-tying two-run homer in the ninth, then Asdrubal Cabrera delivered a walk-off three-run homer in the 11th.

The Mets improved to 1-63 when trailing after eight innings.

The uplifting victory came a night after a demoralizing defeat that ended with Yoenis Cespedes getting robbed of a would-be walk-off homer by Ender Inciarte and the Atlanta Braves completing a three-game sweep in Flushing.
