NEW YORK -- Do the New York Mets really have to take a break?
After consecutively sweeping the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds, the Mets take a six-game winning streak into Thursday’s day off.
The surge has moved the Mets (13-7) within a game of the Washington Nationals (14-6) for first place in the National League East. The Nats have lost consecutive games to the Philadelphia Phillies and have been handed their first series loss this season.
When play resumes Friday, the Mets entertain the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field.
