Mookie Wilson has come to understand place in Mets history

To put it in terms anyone born after 1986 would understand, Mookie Wilson will be trending this weekend.

He hasn’t done anything big in a while, but when the Red Sox and Mets meet on the field — like they do this weekend at Citi Field — his name immediately pops up thanks to his “little roller up along first” that slipped through Bill Buckner’s legs and into baseball and Mets lore 29 years ago.

The fact that Wilson’s whole baseball life is associated with that one play — historic as it was — used to bother the former Met center fielder, now he’s just fine being remembered for that E-3 in the scorebook.
