PORT ST. LUCIE — This was not the Matt Harvey of years ago, blowing opposing hitters away with fastballs in the high 90s.
But it also was a long way from where the right-hander was last spring, when he struggled with velocity and command on his way to the worst season of his career.
The three scoreless innings Harvey tossed in a 4-2 win against a fairly representative Tigers lineup Monday at First Data Field were better than anything he did last spring training, and he looking like a pitcher who will be able to contribute.
“It takes an entire team, an entire staff to be good,” Harvey said.
