The Mets sent an area scout to check out Tim Tebow's workout Tuesday, people in attendance told me, but it's highly doubtful they sign him.
Tebow has not played baseball full-time since 2005, when he was junior in high school. The Los Angeles Angels expressed interest in drafting him, but he did not play his senior year, instead committing full time to football.
The former University of Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner eventually spent time in the NFL with the Broncos, Jets, Patriots, and Eagles, last playing in 2012.
Not surprisingly, the consensus among scouts I've talked with seems to be that, while he has speed and can hit a ball over the fence, Tebow isn't likely to demonstrate consistent-enough power to justify being on a roster.
