BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Mike Piazza appeared on 69.9 percent of Hall of Fame ballots last winter. So he seems like a strong candidate to reach the 75 percent threshold this time and be part of next summer's Cooperstown class.
Votes must be submitted by Dec. 21. The results will be announced on Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. ET.
Historically, 21 of the 22 candidates who received at least 69 percent of the vote one year but failed to reach the 75 percent threshold were elected the next year, according to research from Jay Jaffe.
The lone exception: Brooklyn Dodgers great Roy Campanella.
