Mickey Callaway: Openers aren’t in the Mets’ future

ATLANTA — As difficult as the late innings have become for the Mets, an opener doesn’t appear to be considered as part of the solution.

Manager Mickey Callaway downplayed the idea Tuesday, when asked about potentially using a reliever to start games then letting the starter take over.

“I don’t see a need to do it with any of our starters,” Callaway said before the Mets beat the Braves, 10-2, at SunTrust Park. “They know they have a job to do and know they have a pitch count to get to, and they are going to get to those pitch counts.
