ATLANTA — Mickey Callaway was recused from watching most of the Mets’ misery in person Saturday night.
After removing Jason Vargas from the game with one out in the first inning, the manager exchanged words with plate umpire Alfonso Marquez and was ejected. Callaway spent the next three hours watching on TV from the visiting manager’s office at SunTrust Park.
“From the side, some of those pitches looked pretty good,” Callaway said after the Mets’ 11-7 loss to the Braves. “After talking to everybody on the dirt there once I took Vargas out, I felt I had to go defend Vargas a little bit.
