Mickey Callaway's season ended with the Indians on October 12. Ten days later, the Mets announced that Callaway would be the team's next manager. The Mets identified their target and offered him the job early.
It was a quick turnaround for Callaway, who would have been within his rights to take some time to see how everything played out around the league. But despite a number of big jobs already open, like the Red Sox, as well as reports that the Yankees job would be open, Callaway was happy to sign early with the Mets.
"I think it was [love at first sight]," Callaway told The Orange and Blue Thing podcast on The 7 Line.
