According to Cleveland reporter Paul Hoynes, Mets manager Mickey Callaway has reached out to Jason Bere, who had been bullpen coach the last three seasons with the Indians when Callaway was their pitching coach.
The Mets planned to begin interviewing candidates last week as they work to hire a new pitching coach, a team source recently told the NY Post's Mike Puma.
Bere helped Callaway's bullpen in Cleveland lead the American League with a 2.89 ERA in 2017. Their bullpen ranked third in 2016 (3.45 ERA) and second in 2015 (3.12 ERA).
Prior to joining Terry Francona's coaching staff in 2015, Bere, 46, spent nine years as a special assistant to Cleveland's baseball operations department where he scouted, evaluated and instructed the organization's pitchers.
