When Michael Wacha agreed to terms with the Mets on Wednesday, there was a clear open spot in the starting rotation.
One day later, however, the Mets added Rick Porcello to the mix, giving them six proven starters for five spots. But it did little to change Wacha’s mindset as he prepares for what he hopes is a bounce-back season in Queens.
“They [the Mets] said they had a spot to start. I’m here to be in that rotation and be out there every fifth day,” Wacha said Friday on a conference call after his signing became official.
