His single season as a Met did not go the way Michael Cuddyer – or anyone else, for that matter – anticipated. He was signed to offer offense, but his numbers sagged. He was injured, his playing time dwindled and he was no October factor in the Mets’ run to a pennant.
But Cuddyer still considers his lone year in Queens a big hit, he said Saturday in a conference call with reporters to discuss his retirement.
“I signed with the Mets because I believed they had a chance to win, that the mix was there,” Cuddyer said.
