Michael Conforto overshadowed his own big hitting day

MIAMI — Exactly one year after making his major league debut, Michael Conforto made his first career start in center field Sunday.

Before Conforto could even get comfortable, Miguel Rojas ripped a liner to center field in the Marlins’ first at-bat.

“I didn’t have time to think, just react,” Conforto said. “That’s what you do out there in center. You just react and be an athlete and try and make plays.”

Running to his left, Conforto looked like Juan Lagares, fully extending on a dive through the air.

“I didn’t think he had it,” pitcher Steven Matz said.
