Michael Conforto has high hopes after ‘expensive experience’

PORT ST. LUCIE — Michael Conforto didn’t take his first swings in a spring training game last year until March 16, after having had shoulder surgery six months earlier.

Conforto pushed his recovery last spring a little too much, he admits now. This year, he has been able to get back to his usual offseason training routine and has come to camp ready.

“For me, especially after last year, understanding what the offseason can do for you going into spring training and then into the early parts of the season, it’s going to be big for me,” Conforto said Friday after batting practice.
