This week I'm talking with former Mets infielder Gregg Jefferies, who was drafted by the Mets with their top pick in 1985. He made his debut in 1987, returned with a vengeance in 1988, then struggled after being moved to 2B, only to traded to the Royals.
I was a huge Jefferies fan. I was introduced to baseball by the 1985-1986 Mets, so Gregg was the first guy I saw get dreafted, get to the league and make an impact. He was young, aggressive, smart, a little cocky, he was on the cover of SI, and he swung a bat in the pool.
