NEW YORK -- It's no secret that the New York Mets do not operate like a large-market franchise. Or a mid-size-market franchise, for that matter.
But just how low is the payroll right now?
Well, the rough estimate is $106,517,500. And that's with only a righty-hitting backup corner outfielder and setup man potentially left on the organization's shopping list. (Sorry, Festivus passed and there will be no Yoenis Cespedes.)
Because neither the Mets nor Michael Cuddyer will disclose the buyout terms, that's not included in the payroll estimate. Regardless, that money isn't going to on-field performance in 2016, anyway.
