Desperate for any jolt to their struggling offense, the Mets instead got news of another setback this weekend.
The Mets were hoping that Yoenis Cespedes, their power-hitting, but often-injured, left-fielder, would return on Tuesday from a right hip flexor strain that had kept him on the disabled list since May 14.
But on Saturday night, Cespedes left a minor-league rehabilitation game after just two at-bats, complaining of a recurrence of the injury. Now the Mets, who have plummeted seven games below .500 and are in danger of falling out of playoff contention before June has even ended, have no idea when he will be back.
