After announcing that they had fired manager Mickey Callway earlier on Thursday, the Mets had a bit more coaching news, as it was reported that Jim Riggleman will not return as bench coach. Given that Riggleman was hried to be an experienced assistant to Callaway, it doesn’t come as a surprise that he is out, too.
Riggleman had been seen by some as a the Mets’ replacement for Callaway if they had fired him during the season. If that had gone down, it wouldn’t have been surprising if the team had named Riggleman interim manager, even though he had stated that he wasn’t seeking the managerial job after he was hired as bench coach.
