The Mets beat the Padres handily yesterday, and looked to do the same behind Blackburn in the second game. They were facing Joe Musgrove, who they memorably faced in the elimination game of the 2022 Wild Card series. But Musgrove has dealt with a bunch of injuries since then and the Mets hoped to capitalize off any missteps or potential faltering. And Paul Blackburn was starting for the Mets, who, with the exception of his game against the Athletics, has been consistently good for the Mets since being acquired front he Athletics at the trade deadline.
The Mets first inning was quiet, with the first three batters of the game going down in order.
