One-third of the Mets season is complete, and still they wait for their starting pitching to round into form. For at least another week, before the expected returns of Seth Lugo and Steven Matz from the disabled list, the offense will be counted on heavily to keep the team afloat.
On Saturday night at Citi Field, the Mets’ batters delivered, hitting three home runs in the first four innings of a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Second baseman Neil Walker, whom the Pirates traded to the Mets in December 2015, continued to torment his former team, hitting a two-run homer in the first inning.
