The Mets will open the 2016 regular season in Kansas City against the Royals on Sunday, April 3 at 8:35 p.m. ET as part of ESPN’s Opening Day slate, it was announced on Thursday.
The Mets were originally scheduled to play their first game of the season in Kansas City on Monday, April 4.
With their first game being shifted to April 3, the Mets will now have off on Monday before playing their second game of the season against the Royals on Tuesday, April 5. the Mets will then have two days off before returning home to face the Phillies on April 8 in their home opener.
