Mets RHP Bartolo Colon will not start on short rest Friday against the Phillies in Philadelphia. Instead, RHP Robert Gsellman will get the start.
Colon, who is scheduled to start Saturday, only threw 47 pitches on Monday against the Marlins, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in just 2.1 innings.
The Mets had been debating whether to start Colon on Friday, manager Terry Collins told reporters on Wednesday.
Moving Colon's start up to Friday night would have put him in line to start the Wild Card Game this coming Wednesday on regular rest if the Mets make the game and Noah Syndergaard is unavailable to pitch.
