Mets will likely fill coaching vacancy from within

The Mets plan to fill their vacant coaching position from within the organization, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

Among the candidates to replace bench coach Bob Geren, who left to join the Dodgers’ coaching staff: Double-A Binghamton manager Pedro Lopez, minor league pitching rehab coordinator Jon Debus, minor league catching coordinator Bob Natal, and minor league catching instructor Alberto Castillo.

The Mets noted earlier this week that current third base coach Tim Teufel is also a candidate for the job.

According to Rubin, the Mets want to hire someone who has experience as a catcher, since Geren worked as a catching instructor with the team in addition to his bench coach duties.
