The New York Mets are weighing Cuban free agent Yulieski Gourriel as an option for third base, according to Jon Heyman.
Gourriel, 32, was officially cleared to become an unrestricted free agent by MLB.
The Mets will hold a private workout for Gourriel, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said on Tuesday.
"We're going to do our due diligence on that player," Alderson said.
He hit .335 with a .417 on-base percentage, .580 slugging percentage and 250 home runs in 5,491 plate appearances during 15 professional seasons between Cuba and Japan, according to Baseball-Reference.
