Derek Jeter is about to get a hint of how bright Miami’s future may be.
In Friday’s series opener against the Mets, the Marlins will give the organization’s No. 2 prospect, Sandy Alcantra, his first career major league start.
The 22-year-old right-hander is a major piece of the team’s rebuilding plan — acquired from St. Louis in the December trade for Marcell Ozuna — and has gone 5-3, with a 3.71 ERA at Triple-A this season.
Alcantra made eight relief appearances with the Cardinals last season, posting a 4.32 ERA.
“We’re looking forward to getting a close look at him,” Jeter told reporters in Miami on Wednesday.
