Mets Will Extend Protective Netting at Citi Field

Under pressure from a city legislator to improve fan safety at the ballpark, the Mets have agreed to extend their protective netting at Citi Field beyond both dugouts and to the far end of the camera wells along each baseline.

The move comes a little more than a month after City Councilman Rafael L. Espinal Jr. introduced a bill requiring local stadiums to enhance their safety measures to defend fans against foul balls and broken bats. He called on the Mets and the Yankees to extend their netting beyond Major League Baseball’s recommendation of 70 feet from home plate, which reaches to the beginning of each dugout.
