The Mets have decided to bring back Jose Reyes by picking up his 2017 option, which will pay him the Major League minimum, according to FanRag's MLB reporter Jon Heyman.
Heyman also reports that the team will reject Jon Niese's $10-million option, instead paying him a $500,000 buyout, sources said.
These two moves should not come as a surprise. In fact, three weeks ago I said, "The Mets can't wait to decline Niese's $10 million team option," and I'm sure nothing has changed.
In regards to Reyes, the coaches and players all like him, Alderson likes him, the owners like him, he did well, plays three infield positions, can hit leadoff and will be a bargain at the league minimum.
