The Mets want Jacob deGrom to start their home opener on April 8, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York (Mar. 28).
DeGrom's wife, Stacey, is due with the couple's first child during the Mets' opening series in Kansas City that starts on April 3.
The Mets have already named Matt Harvey the starter for April 3, with Noah Syndergaard slated to pitch the second game of the season on April 5.
Since the Mets have three days off during the first week of the season and want to keep their starting pitchers in rhythm, another starter might relieve Syndergaard.
