Mets wallop Phillies, surge into first wild-card spot

Michael Conforto had the worst summer of his baseball life, but there is still time for a fall revival.

With Jay Bruce in purgatory, Conforto is getting a chance to play on a more regular basis, perhaps the opportunity he needs to remind the Mets he was a valuable piece in last year’s ride to the World Series.

Conforto delivered his biggest hit of the season Friday night, blasting a three-run homer in the fifth inning that helped the Mets emerge from the slog in a 10-5 victory over the Phillies at Citi Field.
