The Mets have known for a while about Robert Gsellman's labrum tear in his non-pitching shoulder, which has only really impacted his hitting, his Triple-A pitching coach Frank Viola told SNY's Mostly Mets Podcast on Thursday.
"As far as pitching, it doesn't really hinder him all that much," Viola explained. "He's gone up there and not only proven that he belongs, but he's taking charge in key spots."
According to ESPN's Adam Rubin, Gsellman may need offseason surgery to repair the shoulder injury, but that has yet to be determined.
The key's to Gsellman's success is being consistent with his slider, which was already big-league ready when he got to Triple-A, Viola told Mostly Mets.
