The playoffs have come early for the Mets.
Just over a month after the team made public that Edwin Diaz would not be used for more than three outs until the postseason, the Mets have loosened the reins on their electric closer.
“We’re doing this earlier than we would like, but you might see Diaz for four outs,” manager Mickey Callaway revealed Wednesday before the Mets continued their series with the Nationals at Citi Field. “If we’re not going to be where we want to be at this point, how can we expect to be there and hold off on doing that with Diaz?
