The Mets officially unveiled their tribute to legendary Hall of Famer Tom Seaver on Thursday morning, renaming the seven-block stretch outside of Citi Field “41 Tom Seaver Way” while announcing plans for a Seaver statue.
Children and grandchildren of Seaver, as well as members from the 1969 World Championship team came to celebrate the honor, which has been in the works since the summer of 2016. Seaver, who has dementia and retired from public life, could not attend the event.
“Being here, it is more joyous and more emotional than what I had anticipated.
