LAS VEGAS — Jeurys Familia’s age, durability and track record were all huge selling points to the Mets. Add the fact the veteran reliever had already succeeded on a big stage in New York and was open to a reunion, and the opportunity was too good for the team to ignore.
“The better you know the player, the more comfortable you are with the performance that you can project,” general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said Thursday before departing the winter meetings. “We have a handful of higher-end bullpen arms that we were doing our diligence on, but clearly [Familia] came with an easy path to get that information so we could get it done.
