By the second inning of Sunday’s 6-4 victory against the Colorado Rockies, the Mets looked even less like themselves. Only two position players — Neil Walker and Michael Conforto — from their opening day lineup were on the field.
Many had been claimed by injury, including David Wright, Juan Lagares and Lucas Duda, and Asdrubal Cabrera joined their ranks early on Sunday when he had to be helped off the field because of a knee injury.
The nonwaiver trading deadline is Monday at 4 p.m. Eastern, and the Mets’ weaknesses have becoming more glaring. They have publicly acknowledged that they would like to add a reliever, yet behind the scenes, the Mets, who have one of the worst offenses in baseball, have pursued hitters.
