The Mets are considering pursuing Japanese two-way star Shohei Otani once his Japanese team posts him on the MLB market, first reported by Newsday's Marc Carig and David Lennon and confirmed by SNY contributor Andy Martino.
Otani, 23, is considered one of the premium talents who may be available this offseason. Playing for the Japan Pacific League's Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters from 2013 to 2017, he hit .286/.358/.500 with 48 home runs and 166 RBIs in 403 games as an outfielder, and went 42-15 with a 2.52 ERA in 85 games (82 starts) as a pitcher.
