Mets to celebrate 30th anniversary of 1986 title

On Memorial Day weekend the Mets will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1986 championship team, which, of course, will be a happy occasion, though also a reminder the franchise hasn’t won another since then.

In any case, the Mets on Monday announced plans for the weekend-long celebration during the series against the Dodgers, saying they’ve sent invitations to manager Davey Johnson, his coaching staff, and all of the players from the ’86 team.

That team famously pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in World Series history, rallying from a two-run deficit with two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 10th inning of Game 6 at Shea Stadium to defeat the Red Sox and tie the series, then win it in seven games.
