The Mets will begin their highly-anticipated search for a new general manager with interviews this week. Since it became clear that Sandy Alderson would not be returning to the club, there have been rampant rumors and speculation as to who will run the team’s baseball operations. According to Jon Heyman, there are several known candidates—Doug Melvin, Gary Larocque, Dejon Watson, and Kim Ng—and several more unknown candidates.
Melvin was general manager of the Brewers before David Stearns took over. Larocque is the current director of player development for the St. Louis Cardinals and has extensive experience with the Mets organization and the Wilpons, as he worked for the team before working for the Cardinals.
