PHILADELPHIA — Somebody had to win.
And that somebody who emerged from the Monday night slog was the Mets, who grabbed a lead in the 11th inning they couldn’t squander, using a Rhys Hoskins error on Michael Conforto’s grounder to score the go-ahead run in a 7-6 victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
Conforto’s shot scored Juan Lagares, who had opened the inning with an infield single against Pat Neshek.
Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect 11th to secure the save, ending the marathon in 4 hours, 29 minutes.
