ATLANTA — Daniel Murphy isn’t ready to rejoin the Mets just yet.
Though general manager Sandy Alderson had targeted Tuesday in Milwaukee for the infielder’s return from a left quadriceps injury, that timetable has been pushed back, according to sources.
Murphy has been taking at-bats in Port St. Lucie, Fla., but is yet to see action defensively. The new expectation is Murphy will have a short minor-league rehab assignment to get his legs back defensively before rejoining the Mets this weekend.
When Murphy returns the Mets may demote Dilson Herrera, who has struggled since returning from the disabled list.
