Robert Gsellman had been the weak link of the Mets’ rotation. So naturally he played stopper Wednesday and helped snap their four-game skid.
The rookie bounced back from the worst start of his career, becoming the first Mets starter to get into the eighth inning and helping them to a slump-busting 5-4 win over the Phillies before 22,243 at Citi Field.
“We’re going to pick it up and turn it around,’’ said Gsellman, who worked a career-high seven-plus innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, one walk and a season-high tying seven strikeouts. He left in the eighth with a 3-2 lead before taking a tough-luck no-decision.
