ATLANTA — The Mets’ effort to trade Dillon Gee went nowhere over the last week, so the team has placed the right-hander on waivers, an industry source confirmed Sunday.
If Gee isn’t claimed within the next two days, he will be out-righted to Triple-A Las Vegas and serve as an insurance policy for the Mets.
It is unlikely Gee will be claimed given he is still owed about $3.2 million. The Mets had hoped to trade Gee and get another team to absorb at least part of that remaining salary.
Gee was designated for assignment last Monday after he was shellacked by the Braves the previous day.
